Baker Hughes reported its second quarter of 2026 in a release headed "Baker Hughes Announces Second-Quarter 2026 Results," with a dateline of July 26, 2026. Its highlights list "Orders of $10.5 billion, including $7.1 billion of IET orders." IET is the release's short form for its Industrial & Energy Technology segment, and the gas turbine awards stand under that segment's heading. Parts of the release follow, not the whole.
Turbines with data centers among the uses
Under the heading "Key awards and technology achievements," the release lists the segment's awards and agreements. They include liquefied natural gas equipment, compression for gas fields, and power generation in North America.
One, from a customer the release names, is "a major award" that includes "76 NovaLT™16 gas turbines, for approximately 1.3 GW of capacity for its hypermobile power solutions for a wide range of data center and oil & gas applications in North America." Data centers, and oil and gas, in the same award.
The release names data centers beside oil and gas in that award, and gives no split between them. A reader counting turbines bound for data centers cannot take the number from this list.
Another, with a different customer it names, is "a multi-year strategic agreement" that includes "an initial major award supporting 1 GW of power generation capacity and a broader framework providing a pathway for up to 1.8 GW over time." An initial award, and a framework for more over time. "The initial order leverages Baker Hughes' NovaLT™16, Frame 5 and BRUSH™ Power Generation generator technologies to meet accelerating power demand from data centers and energy infrastructure projects across North America," the release says.
The segment's obligations and orders
Further on, under "Other Financial Items," the release turns to Remaining Performance Obligations, which it shortens to RPO. Its RPO "in the second quarter of 2026 ended at $40.1 billion, an increase of $4.0 billion from the first quarter of 2026." For the segment with the turbines, "IET RPO was $37.1 billion, up $4.0 billion sequentially," and within it, Gas Technology Equipment and Gas Technology Services "were $15.0 billion and $16.7 billion, respectively."
In its results by segment, the release gives that segment's orders. "IET orders of $7,088 million for the second quarter of 2026 increased by $3,558 million, or 101% year-over-year." The release puts that down to "continued strength in Gas Technology Equipment and Gas Technology Services."
The release also names a limit on its orders and RPO. Among the risks in its forward-looking statements is the company's ability to execute on orders and RPO "in accordance with agreed specifications, terms and conditions and convert those orders and RPO to revenue and cash."
Awards, orders and obligations are what the release reports. For a developer who has yet to order a turbine, the question that follows is where a new order would stand behind these.
