An Award to Make Gas-Fired Power Units for a Data Center: Enerflex's Material Change Report of October 13, 2026

Enerflex Ltd. reported on October 13, 2026 that it has been contracted to design, engineer, fabricate and assemble "over one gigawatt" of natural gas-fired power generation units for a large data center development in North America. The report also says what its backlog offers beyond the initial equipment scope.

On October 13, 2026, Enerflex Ltd. filed a short report headed "MATERIAL CHANGE REPORT". The change is an award. The company says it "has been contracted to design, engineer, fabricate, and assemble over one gigawatt of low emission behind-the-meter natural gas-fired power generation units for a large-scale North American data center development." Parts of the report follow, not the whole.

The report calls the award a major "Engineered Systems" project, "ES" for short. It does not name the data center development, or who is developing it.

A backlog that runs to 2028

The award does not stand alone. "Combined with additional project awards, including approximately 450 megawatts announced on October 1, 2026, Enerflex's backlog of behind-the-meter natural gas-fired power generation now exceeds 1.75 gigawatts, with deliveries extending through 2028." "Exceeds" makes the figure a floor, and the report does not say how the backlog divides among the awards.

For a campus that needs power sooner, the question to put to a maker whose deliveries run through 2028 is when a new order could be delivered.

The factories behind the order

The report says that "The projects will be executed through Enerflex's North American manufacturing operations." To support the backlog and "expected growth across Enerflex's core markets", the company "is investing in expanding the capabilities of its ES business line." In the report's words, "As previously announced, Enerflex has authorized approximately $100 million of investments in its ES facilities and capabilities, $15 million of which is included in Enerflex's capital expenditure guidance for 2026."

The company also says what it expects the investments to do. The investments, with other initiatives the report lists, "are expected to significantly increase revenue capacity of Enerflex's ES business line." That is the company's forecast, in its own report.

The report speaks of revenue capacity, not of how many units a year the factories can turn out. For a buyer counting the months to first power, that is the number still to ask for.

Beyond the initial equipment scope

The report ends its description with the backlog as a whole. "Beyond the initial equipment scope", it says, the company's backlog "provides opportunities for future commissioning, installation, and after-market services support". Opportunities is the report's word, and it is said of the backlog, not of this award alone.
