The NSW Ombudsman Says the Traffic Lights in Revenue NSW's Check Summary Report for Garnishee Orders Should Logically Always Show Green, and in Practice Almost Always Do

The NSW Ombudsman's special report of April 30, 2024 found that Revenue NSW's use of its garnishee order system to recover fines debts was contrary to law from January 2016 to March 2019, when orders were issued with no authorized decision-maker making the decision, and wrong from March 2019 to March 2022, because, even if it is possible that lawful decisions were being made, the system did not give decision-makers a clear and complete basis for their decisions, or clearly and fully record those decisions and evidence the decision-making process.
