On November 7, 2024, Munters published a short release under the headline "Munters Data Center Technologies wins order for cooling distribution units." It reports an order, and it gives the company's own account of what the ordered equipment is for. Parts of the release follow, not the whole.
The Order
Munters says it "has received an order with a value of MSEK 375 (appr. MUSD 35), from a new customer who is a leading data center colocation provider in the US." The release does not name the customer.
The order "is for the Munters LCX system, a water-to-water cooling distribution unit (CDU) utilized for liquid cooled servers." The release names no number of units, no site and no date for delivery.
More Heat to Be Managed
In its second paragraph, the release gives the company's reading of what is changing inside servers. "As processing units grow more powerful to handle increasingly complex workloads, servers generate more heat to be managed efficiently." The next sentence reads, "Liquid cooling allows data centers to manage these rising temperatures more effectively than traditional air cooling."
Those are the company's statements, and the release gives no figure for the difference. It does say what CDUs do. In its words, they "are critical in this process, regulating the flow and temperature of cooling liquids to ensure efficient heat transfer away from the equipment." The same paragraph says that "The data center segment is one of Munters prioritized growth areas."
An order for cooling distribution units shows equipment bought for liquid cooled servers. The release gives no count of the servers it is for.
