PJM Says the Reprieve of the Milder Seasons Used for Maintenance Is Not What It Used to Be

In an article of October 15, 2026, PJM says the "once-dependable reprieve" of the milder seasons used for maintenance "is not what it used to be," in part because most of the new, rapidly growing demand is from data centers and other energy-intensive Large Load customers, whose consumption "does not fluctuate significantly with the weather."

Connected for More Than They Use: Data Centers in AEMO's 2026 Electricity Statement of Opportunities

The Australian Energy Market Operator's 2026 Electricity Statement of Opportunities says that, to date, data centers in the National Electricity Market "have been operating with a relatively flat load typically well below the maximum connection capacity." It also counts the projects proposed and canceled, and forecasts their consumption.

How Much of Ireland's Metered Electricity Goes to Data Centers: The Statistics Office's Release for 2025

Ireland's Central Statistics Office counts the electricity that passed through data centers' meters, year by year from 2015 to 2025. Its notes say there is no agreed definition of a data center, and that the data for all years are subject to revision.

Commercial Electricity Sales Have Soared in Virginia: EIA's In-Brief Analysis of May 5, 2026

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported on May 5, 2026 that commercial electricity sales in Virginia rose between 2019 and 2025, growth it says is "largely driven by a concentration of data centers, as well as electric vehicle adoption and building electrification."

Rapid and Large Swings in Demand: The IEA's April 2026 Release on Energy and AI

On April 16, 2026, the International Energy Agency said electricity demand from data centers in 2025 well outpaced the growth of global electricity demand. Its release also lists the physical bottlenecks it sees, and says the swings in an AI data center's demand can stretch the technical capabilities of onsite gas plants.

At a Slightly Slower Pace: Statistics Netherlands on Data Centers' Electricity in 2024

On December 15, 2025, Statistics Netherlands reported the electricity supplied to data centers in the Netherlands in 2024, as a share of the country's consumption and by size of data center. It says the electricity consumed by data centers is steadily increasing, at a slightly slower pace than previously.
